The first Corvette prototype was presented at the Motorama Show in the Waldorf - Astoria Hotel in New York in 1953. The first models were not a great success, despite the performance improvements made to the engine. The adoption of a V8 engine and three-speed manual transmission was the turning point for this car. This transformation into a sports car made it into an American classic. The production of the Chevrolet Corvette C2 began in 1963. The most obvious changes were concerning the esthetics. The mechanics also underwent improvements. It was equipped with independent suspensions, the engine was upgraded, and it was fitted with a telescopic steering column.
