Piaggio Vespa 125 faro basso

An Italian icon...

The Vespa is a Piaggio scooter, patented in April 23, 1946 by the aeronautical engineer Corradino d’Ascanio. It is one of the most famous industrial design products in the world and often used as a symbol of Italian design. The version dubbed ‘Low Headlamp’, produced from 1946 to 1958 in two series, is characterized by the fact that the light is on the front fender, instead of on the steering wheel. As an option you could put an odometer, but unlike other Vespas the handlebars were not covered in sheet metal, making it susceptible to vandalism and theft. It required maintenance, but at the time it was designed to survive in long journeys and to the various traps of the post war period. It had no rear suspensions but the function was performed by the springs in the saddle. The front suspension was placed on the right side of the wheel, unlike all other Vespa models which have it on the left.
